The Police in Borno have confirmed that 12 corpses of people killed by Boko Haram in an attack on Gatamarwa and Tsiha communities in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State have been recovered.

The spokesperson of the Borno Police Command, ASP Nahum Daso Kenneth, confirmed that the gunmen invaded the two communities shooting sporadically on Monday.

“The gunmen shot sporadically at the people in the two communities. So far, 12 corpses were recovered and two were injured,” he said.

Kenneth said the police commissioner and other security heads had ordered a discreet investigation into the matter to bring the perpetrators to book.

According to Daily Trust, the terrorists stormed the community of Gatamarwa around 5 pm on Monday during the New Year celebration.

The sources said the insurgents who were heavily armed with AK-47 rifles, came on motorcycles, in Hilux vans and opened fire on mourners returning from Gatamarwa.

“They later attacked another Tsiha community near Shikarkir and killed three people and abducted a young lady. They burnt houses after looting their foodstuffs,” he said.

Reacting yesterday, the Middle Belt Forum, MBF, expressed deep shock over the renewed attack on two Chibok communities by Boko Haram insurgents on new year day, killing 11 mourners and three others.

The National President of MBF, Dr. Bitrus Pogu, said the insurgents who attacked the communities were kitted in military uniform.

Dr. Pogu, said he received information that Nigerian troops went out and engaged the insurgents who ran away, leaving one of their motorbikes.

He said: “The military disclosed that the insurgents sometimes kit up in military camouflage to deceive the people and when you allow them to your place, they open fire on their unsuspecting victims.“

“As we are talking also, people have gone to bury the three that were killed in Tsiha village but we gathered that Boko Haram are relaunching attacks on the village.”

He said the military should eliminate the insurgents.
