Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu has suspended all programmes under the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA).

This is as a result of the ongoing investigation into sharp practices in the agency.

The four programmes under NSIPA suspended by the president are: N- Power Programme, Conditional Cash Transfer Programme, Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme and Home Grown School Feeding Programme.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Director of Information in the office to Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Segun Imohiosen on Friday.

According to the statement, the social investment programme would be suspended for a period of six weeks in the first instance.

It added that the decision to suspend the programme was in light of the ongoing investigation of alleged malfeasance in the management of the agency and its programmes.

The statement said Tinubu had also raised significant concerns regarding operational lapses and improprieties surrounding payments to the Programmes beneficiaries.

The statement stated that the president had therefore constituted a ministerial panel to conduct a thorough review of the Agency’s operations with a view to recommending necessary reforms of the NSIPA.

According to the government, during the period of this suspension, all NSIPA-related activities, including but not limited to all distributions, events, payments, collaborations and registrations had now been frozen.

The government said Tinubu wished to assure the stakeholders and all Nigerians that his administration remained committed to a swift and unbiased process that would ensure that, going forward, social intervention programmes would work exactly as intended, to the benefit of the most vulnerable Nigerians.
