Polygamy not for boys but men - Rita Edochie

Veteran actress Rita Edochie has shed light on the proper approach to polygamy within Igbo society, emphasizing the importance of thoughtful consideration and mutual consent.

Edochie expressed skepticism towards the success of polygamous marriages in Igbo culture, likening the experience to “going from frying pan to fire”.

The actress stressed that there should be no compulsion for a Catholic man, particularly one with a devoted wife who has borne him children, to seek additional spouses.

However, if a man chooses to pursue polygamy, Edochie emphasized the necessity of transparent communication and obtaining the primary wife’s consent and approval beforehand.
