Olamilekan Odofin: alleged leader of Yoruba Nation agitators

A 34-year-old man alleged to be the leader of scores of Yoruba Nation agitators who attacked commutters and security operatives in Ojota area of Lagos on 23 January,2023, Olamilekan Odofin has been arrested.

Odofin was arrested after one year on the run by officers of the Ayobo Division of Lagos Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the police said on his social media handle.

“The suspect, on January 9, 2023, championed attacks on motorists and the police under the guise of Yoruba Nation agitation. Investigation is ongoing,” Hundeyin said.

Recall that scores of members of the Yoruba agitators allegedly armed with placards and dangerous weapons had in the early morning of 23 January taken over the busy Ojota Expressway of Lagos to demand the creature of Yoruba nation.

The agitators disrupted traffic and economic activities and also attacked some commutters.

However, a team of police officers from Alausa Division and the Raid Respond Squad (RRS) promptly stepped in to disperse them and prevent a breakdown of law and order.

But the agitators, according to a statement issued then by Hundeyin also attacked the police team shooting, and destroying two vehicles in the process.

Some of the police officers were injured in the attack.

The Divisional Police Officer was also allegedly attacked by the agitators.

“RRS officers and patrol vehicles were shot at by several pump-action-rifle-wielding miscreant,” said Hundeyin.

He also revealed that four suspects identified as Olatunji Abatan, Nwosa Henry, Ganiyu Sakajojo, Afees Adekoya were arrested over the mayhem.

He added the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba was saddled with the investigation of the incident.
