Kai Havertz’s late strike on Saturday ensured Arsenal beat Brentford 2-1 at the Emirates to move top of the English Premier League table.
The match was heading for a draw when Havertz struck four minutes to the end of the match to give Arsenal all three points.
Havertz burst into the box to get on the end of a whipped in cross from Ben White and scored magnificently from close range into the top right corner.
Arsenal, which had been on a free-scoring mode opened the scoring in the 19th minute of the game. Ben White sent a superb cross into the box. Declan Rice latched on to it and from near the penalty spot powered a header inside the left post, leaving Mark Flekken beaten.
Brentford equalised four minutes into first half added time. Yoane Wissa seized on the loose ball after a huge error from Aaron Ramsdale and found the back of the net from inside the box.
In the 55th minute, Ivan Toney latched on to a low pass and without any hesitation whatsoever released a first-time rocket towards the top left corner. Unfortunately for him, his long-distance effort was blocked by Ramsdale who made a glorious save.
Midway into the second half, Ramsdale made a superb save to deny a header which was nodded towards the roof of the net by Nathan Michael Collins after a cross from the side.
