#AMVCA10: Organizers announce dates for 2024 Awards

10th edition of Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA)

Organizers of the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) have announced that the 10th edition of the award would hold on May 10th and 11th, 2024 in Lagos.

The AMVCA is an annual award ceremony that celebrates the artistic and technical merits in the movie industry around the African continent.

The award organisers announced the activities for the 10th edition on Tuesdy at a media launch/press conference held at  MultiChoice office, Ilupeju, Lagos.

Day one of the AMVCA starts on May 10th with the MTF & Digital Day, followed by Opening Night, celebrating film production talents, culture, fashion, music, and other elements of African entertainment.. While day two, May 11th, is the big day—the live AMVCA Awards event.

The nominees list for this year’s edition will be announced on Sunday, March 24th, 2024, at 8 PM WAT.

Speaking about the impact of the event in the movie industry, Busola Tejumola, Executive Head, Content & Channels, West Africa at MultiChoice said the impact the AMVCAs have had on the movie industry across the continent is undeniable.

“Let me give you some numbers – since inception in 2013, the AMVCAs have injected over N623 billion into the film and television economy, N9 billion in awards events, training, and logistics, creating over 27 000 long & short-term jobs through the development of critical skills and honoring the industry stars,” she stated.

Speaking on the nominations for each category, the organisers said it is subjective to “specific criterias and processes” by the jury.

“The nominations of the AMVCA are determined by specific criterias and processes determined by the jury in conjunction with Delloite. Some of the key criterias taken into consideration for nominations include the eligibility period, categories, the submissions process and voting process,” said Femi Odugbemi, the Head Judge for the 10th AMVCA.

The organisers had earlier revealed that some changes had been made to this year’s edition of the award ceremony.

One of such major changes is that the award categories have been reduced from 33 to 27, adding that the development was in order “to meet global trends and standards”.

The 10th edition of AMVCA will now see winners in 25 categories — including 2 special recognition awards.
