UNICEF staff donate hospital equipment to Chiranchi Primary Healthcare Centre in Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano state.

Kano UNICEF Field Office Staff Association on Tuesday donated different types of hospital equipment worth N2, 450,000 to the management of Chiranchi Primary Healthcare Centre in Kumbotso Local Government Area of the state.

The Association also constructed extension of the lab slab at the Primary Healthcare Centre, which is expected to commence 24-hour services by next week.

The chairperson of the Association, Dr. Saudat Basheer said the kind gesture was part of their Charity Project which is executed annually to better the lives of children and women.

According to her, the Association has been making positive impacts on the welfare of children and women, particularly in the health and education sectors.

Speaking while handing over the equipment to the hospital management, Dr. Saudat said: “We are here to handover hospital equipments purchased for donation to this Primary Healthcare Centre as part of our Charity Project designed to promote the welfare and well-being of children and women.

“We carry out this Charity Project annually to contribute our own quota to the promotion of the welfare of women and children. Last year, we focused on the education sector. But this time around, we decided to make donations to Chiranchi Primary Healthcare Centre because it is one of the biggest Primary Healthcare Centres within Kano metropolis with high traffic of patients

“The staff of UNICEF Kano Field Office made contributions from their private pockets to purchase these equipments being donated today, and we do hope that the equipment will be put into proper use.”

In his remarks after receiving the equipments, the Director-General of Kano State Primary Healthcare Management Board, Dr. Nasir Mohammed Mahmoud, described the occasional as very historic to not only the Chiranchi Primary Healthcare Centre, but the entire Kano Primary Healthcare Management Board.

According to him, the equipment arrived at the right time, as plans have been concluded to ensure that by next week, the Centre will commence 24-hour healthcare services.

He further expressed optimism that the equipments will enhance quality service delivery at the Centre, and urged the management to ensure the maintenance and safety of the equipment.

The equipment donated by the Association include: one adult weighing machine, two pediatric weighing scale, three tables, six chairs, one laboratory centrifuge and one microscopy machine.

Others include: one hematocrit, one delivery bed, one manual suction machine, two baby bed, two delivery kit, four storage shelves, two trolley and long chairs.
