Man kills septuagenarian father, step mother with pestle

A 32-year-old man identified as Etionsa Aiguokun, has reportedly killed his 74-year-old father and step mother, with a pestle.

The deceased are identified as Mr Aiguokun and his wife, simply identified as Roseline.

The incident occurred on Wednesday last week, at Evbomore community in Ovia North-East local government area of Edo State.

Trouble was said to have started when the suspect had a hot altercation with his father, a development that resulted in a disagreement and later degenerated to a physical attack.

In the process, the suspect was said to have run into the kitchen, took a pestle and hit the septuagenarian on the head in the seating room.

The step mother who was said to have rushed to the scene on hearing the screaming of her husband, was also attacked on her head with the pestle by the suspect.

The couple reportedly died at the spot.

Following the murder, the suspect allegedly dragged the lifeless bodies of his parents to the back of the house, dumped them beside a septic tank and covered them with weeds, cleaned up the blood stains in the house and relax.

It was also gathered that he collected his late father’s mobile phone and sold it for N25,000 at the King’s Square, in Benin city.

A source in the community, who pleaded not to be named, said that when other children of the deceased returned home, they started searching for their parents.

He added that the suspect also joined the other children in searching for their parents.

According to the source, “Following a report of missing persons at the Ugbowo Division of the Police, the operatives swung into investigation.

“The bodies of the deceased were recovered at the back of house, and the suspect confessed to the killing.

“The suspect who could not give any genuine reason for killing his father and step mother, was subsequently arrested,” he added.

The Edo State Police Command spokesman, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, who confirmed the incident, said the suspect has been transferred to the Homicide Department of the Command for discrete investigation.

Nwabuzor further confirmed that the corpses had been taken to the mortuary for autopsy and investigations.
