Swizerland beat Hungary

Switzerland thrashed Hungary 3-1 in their opening match at Euro 2024 on Saturday to keep tabs on Germany in Group A.

Germany is top of Group A after demolishing Scotland 5-1 on Friday to lead on points.

Switzerland opened the scoring 12 minutes into the game through Kwadwo Duah. The referee initially disallowed the goal for offside, but changed his mind and awarded the goal after VAR’s review.

The Swiss’ second goal came in the 45th minute of the match. Michel Aebischer took a great first touch to control a killer pass on the edge of the box and drilled a shot into the bottom right corner in trademark fashion.

Shortly after the restart, Peter Gulacsi pulled off a great save to deny Duah, who made himself some space inside the box and unleashed a quick low drive to the bottom left corner.

Hungary pulled on back in the 66th minute of the match. Dominik Szoboszlai sent a long raking pass onto the head of Barnabas Varga, who made no mistake from close in and sent the ball into the right side of the goal to make it 1-2.

Switzerland hit their third goal three minutes into added time. Breel Embolo got to the ball inside the box, saw the goalkeeper off his line and lifted the ball over him and into the back of the net.
