Abayomi Nureni Tella has been elected as the new Chairman of the Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In his acceptance speech, Tella said he is committed to revitalizing and repositioning the party for future success.
He acknowledged the party’s legacy as a former ruling power and expressed confidence in reclaiming victory in the next elections.
Tella addressed the challenges the party has faced, including internal conflicts and judicial issues, emphasizing the need for unity.
He also criticized the ruling APC in Ogun State, accusing them of manipulating the 2023 elections to stay in power.
Highlighting the PDP’s past achievements, such as job creation and educational advancements, Tella urged former members who had defected to other parties to return and strengthen the PDP.
Reflecting on the recent Edo State election, Tella alleged that the PDP was unfairly defeated, pointing to Nigeria’s underdeveloped electoral processes.
He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to improve voter registration and ensure a more credible electoral system.
He criticized the difficulty of obtaining a Permanent Voter Card (PVC), comparing it to the ease of securing an ATM card.
Tella called for a more transparent and independent INEC in future elections, stressing that the PDP is better positioned to reclaim power in Ogun State.
He praised the peaceful conduct of the state congresses, commending party leaders for fostering unity. However, Tella warned against those attempting to discredit the party through legal battles and media tactics, urging them to work together under the PDP’s umbrella for shared success.
Tella emphasized the need for discipline within the party and urged the executive members to stay focused on the goal of returning the PDP to power in Ogun State.
