Nigerian singer Skales has opened up about his strained relationship with his former record label mate, Wizkid, claiming that the global superstar never liked him.
Speaking on the “Listen” podcast, the ‘Shake Body’ crooner shared his perspective, alleging that he has always felt “repelling energy” from Wizkid.
Skales revisited their public fallout on social media years ago, which began when he jokingly responded during a Q&A session on Twitter. “Somebody asked, ‘What’s up with your guy Wiz?’ And I jokingly said, ‘My brother Wiz does not have my time anymore.’ From there, Wizkid started insulting me, my father, and my mother,” Skales recounted.
The singer revealed that the heated exchange included accusations from Wizkid, who claimed Skales wore fake jewelry. Skales noted that his ex-girlfriend had replied on his behalf at the time.
Reflecting on the incident, Skales expressed frustration over the public’s perception of him during the fallout, which painted him as envious of Wizkid’s success. He said, “I pick my battles. People would say I’m jealous or envious of Wizkid’s success. That was the narrative going around.”
Skales disclosed his attempts to reconcile with Wizkid, but his efforts were reportedly met with resistance. “I have tried to make peace with him, but he was adamant. He didn’t like me, I can tell you for a fact,” Skales said.
