In just a few weeks, the AMVCA will unfold its grand ceremony and ever since the nominations were announced, the discussions have been nonstop

Meet the nominees for Best Lead Actress category:

1.Chioma Akpotha

Chioma Akpotha portrayed Queen Amaka in Seven Doors, a compelling story set in 18th and 19th-century Nigeria. She played the role of an Igbo queen married to a Yoruba king, Adedunjoye, acted by Femi Adebayo in the film. However, what began as a blissful union intended to foster unity took a massive turn when Adedunjoye is called to ascend the throne of Ilara Kingdom. Tradition requires him to marry seven women, or risk severe repercussions due to a curse passed down through generations.

Queen Amaka finds herself torn between her love for her husband and the heavy burden of duty.  Chioma portrayed this intricate character with elegance, immersing you in her emotional conflict and the tense, unpredictable world she navigates.

2. Gbugbemi Ejeye

Gbugbemi Ejeye takes on the role of Funmi in Farmer’s Bride, a young woman trapped in an unhappy marriage. The story, set in 1980s Ibadan, followed Funmi as she is wedded to a prosperous farmer, played by Femi Branch. Despite the material comforts her marriage provides, Funmi felt restless and unfulfilled. Her yearning for love and emotional connection drove her into a secret affair with her husband’s young nephew, portrayed by Femi Bakre. This secret relationship triggered a series of events that gradually disrupt the lives of all those involved.
