Nigerian On-Air Personality, Roby Ekpo, has stirred a wave of reactions on social media after questioning how certain individuals secure invitations to the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs).
In a post, Ekpo wrote, “I keep asking this question, how do people get invitations to the AMVCAs? Cos, how can someone that doesn’t have any talent dress up like a banana?”
His statements have added fuel to ongoing criticism surrounding the annual event, particularly the growing emphasis on extravagant fashion over merit. While the AMVCAs are known for celebrating excellence in film and television, recent editions have drawn scrutiny over the relevance and selection of some red carpet appearances.
