Nigerian singer Lekan Osifeso Jr, also known as Lojay, has spoken on his music making process, revealing that he doesn’t write his songs.

While speaking with Afrobeats Intelligence on Tuesday, Lojay addressed the importance of being raw and expressing emotions in songs.

He stated that authenticity in making music guarantees resonance and timeliness.

“I don’t write music. When I try to write, I’ll overtalk. And I always end up not liking it. Sometimes, I’ll bring out my notes to fill in the blanks, that is easier. But to sit down and and write lyrics, it will come out very rigid,” he said.

He also advised artists to not place trends over their craft. While referencing Rema’s ‘Soundgasm’, Lojay explained that music should come from within.

“I remember listening to Soundgasm, and Rema starts to whisper in the third verse. I was like this guy understands it like he gets it like he just gets it. It’s like that’s the feeling of the song. It does feel like somebody should be whispering in my ear right now. Yeah, and it’s like you just understand it. There are ways you just need to make music based on like or rather, when it comes to making music. Forget what’s happening outside. It’s like, what are you trying to capture?,” he stated
