Trump drags Elon Musk, calls his new political party “ridiculous”

President Donald Trump has slammed Elon Musk’s new political party, describing the move as “ridiculous” and branding the billionaire a “train wreck” who has “gone off the rails.”

Trump, who spoke to reporters on Sunday before boarding Air Force One, dismissed Musk’s plan to float the “America Party” as a waste of time.

“I think it’s ridiculous to start a third party. It’s always been a two-party system. Third parties never work. He can have fun with it, but I think it’s ridiculous,” Trump said bluntly.

The verbal attack marks another dramatic twist in the falling out between the former allies. Musk once served as head of Trump’s controversial “Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)” and was often seen by Trump’s side.

But things fell apart over disagreements about the president’s mega spending bill, which Musk says will “explode the U.S. debt.” Since then, Musk has been vocal about his plans to “challenge the one-party system” and defeat lawmakers who backed the bill.

Posting on X, Musk said: “When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy.”

Trump, however, is not buying it. Taking to his Truth Social account mid-flight, the president doubled down on Musk, saying: “I am saddened to watch Elon Musk go completely ‘off the rails,’ essentially becoming a TRAIN WRECK over the past five weeks.”

“The one thing third parties are good for is creating complete and total DISRUPTION & CHAOS—and we already have enough of that with the radical left Democrats,” Trump added.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent also took a swipe at Musk, suggesting the tech mogul should return to his companies.

“I believe the boards of his companies want him back. That’s where he belongs, not politics,” Bessent said on CNN.

Musk, who left the DOGE in May, hasn’t given full details about his new party or whether it’s been officially registered. But political watchers say his move could hurt Republicans in next year’s midterms.

The fallout between Trump and Musk became public just days after Musk was seen leaving the White House with a black eye and a ceremonial golden key—part of a bizarre farewell as he exited his federal role.
