The chances for victory of Christopher Maikalangu, the All Progressives Congress, APC candidate for Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), in next Saturday’ FCT Area Council election was boosted on Thursday with the steeping down of his Peoples Democratic Party, PDP opponent for him.

Maikalangu, who is the incumbent chairman of AMAC is seeking in the next Saturday’s election, though he was elected for the first term on the platform of PDP.

However, Mr Zadna Dantani, the PDP candidate told journalists in Abuja on Thursday that he had stepped down Maikalangu less than 48 hours to the election

He said his decision to step down and endorse the APC candidate followed the intervention of FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

He added that he has communicated his decision to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

He said “I want to sincerely appreciate everyone who supported us and by the grace of God, we are doing it not because of our personal interests.

“I am here to tell my people that as a candidate who is standing for this election, I have today, agreed based on the intervention of Wike, who is our leader in the party and the leader in FCT.

“He called my attention to let us know that this is a brotherhood election.

“I am also doing this in support of the good works of the President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“I have consulted widely and by the grace of God we have agreed that we are no longer going to contest against my brother, Christopher Maikalangu.”

Dantani called on his supporters across 12 wards in AMAC to come out en masse and support Maikalangu.

Dantani’s decision came less than 24 hours after his counterpart in Bwari, Mr Julius Adamu stepped down for the APC candidate, Mr Joshua Musa.
