Speaking during a media briefing on Wednesday night, Yilwatda emphasised that membership of the APC is entirely voluntary and that the party does not compel anyone to join.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, is at liberty to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) if he so chooses, the party’s National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has said.

Speaking during a media briefing on Wednesday night, Yilwatda emphasised that membership of the APC is entirely voluntary and that the party does not compel anyone to join.

“If he wants to join the APC, he is free to do so. We don’t compel people to join APC. People willingly join APC,” he said.

The APC chairman also dismissed claims that political appointments in the Tinubu administration are contingent on party affiliation. He pointed out that several individuals who previously criticised the President are currently serving in government.

“There’s nowhere you will see that there was an agreement with us that you must join APC before you serve in our government. People that insulted Mr President, he appointed them. They are in our government. He didn’t ask them to join the APC,” Yilwatda said.

He further described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership as inclusive, noting that even critics have been welcomed into the fold rather than sidelined.

“Those that insulted him, he welcomed them in broad daylight,” Yilwatda added.
