A chilling account has emerged of how a deadly terrorist assault abruptly ended the last conversation between Brigadier-General Oseni Braimah and his twin brother.

The senior Army officer was killed alongside several soldiers during a midnight attack on the 29 Task Force Brigade Headquarters in Benisheikh, Borno State, on April 9, 2026.

According to Vanguard, Braimah was on a routine late-night phone call with his twin brother, who lives abroad, when the terrorists struck.

A family source revealed that the identical twins shared a close bond and spoke almost every day, often around midnight. But that night, the conversation took a tragic turn.

“They had started talking after midnight as usual,” the source said. “Suddenly, the General paused, as if he noticed some unusual movement around him. Moments later, the line went dead.”

Repeated attempts by the twin brother to reconnect failed.

“He kept calling and sending messages, but there was no response. He stayed awake, distressed, trying repeatedly until about 4 a.m., but nothing,” the source added.

The devastating confirmation came hours later.

“By around 6:30 a.m., I got a call from a senior Army officer. Immediately, I knew something was wrong. He said the base was under attack and communication had broken down. Then he broke the news — that some soldiers had been killed, and the Brigade Commander, my brother, was among them.”

The late General, an indigene of Edo State, was buried alongside his fallen soldiers in Maiduguri on Wednesday.

In a move to support the grieving family, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has approved full educational scholarships for the General’s three children.
