Iranian gunboat fires on container ship off Oman coast

A container ship was fired upon by an Iranian gunboat off the coast of Oman on Wednesday, causing significant damage to the vessel but resulting in no casualties, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).

The UKMTO reported that the vessel’s captain informed authorities that an Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) gunboat approached the ship and opened fire, damaging the ship’s bridge.

However, no fires or environmental impact were reported following the attack.

The incident occurred 15 nautical miles northeast of Oman. The agency confirmed that the entire crew remained unharmed and the ship continued its journey.

Maritime security officials are investigating the incident, which adds to ongoing concerns over tensions in the Gulf region.
