Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara has withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship primary election in Rivers State, declaring his readiness to support whoever emerges as the party’s candidate.

The Rivers governor announced his withdrawal in a personally signed statement issued on Wednesday, describing the decision as difficult but necessary after extensive consultations with close associates and family members.

“After deep reflection and extensive consultations with my family, friends and associates, I have taken the difficult but necessary decision to withdraw from the APC governorship primaries,” Fubara stated.

“I do so with a full heart and with a firm commitment to support whoever emerges as the candidate of our great party,” he added.

The unexpected move comes amid growing political realignments and heightened tension ahead of the APC governorship primaries in Rivers State.

Although Fubara did not disclose the specific reasons behind his withdrawal, political observers believe the development may significantly reshape the power dynamics within the party ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The governor, however, maintained that his decision was taken in the interest of party unity and stability.

Fubara also urged his supporters and political loyalists to remain calm and continue supporting the APC as the party prepares for the next phase of the electoral process.
