Prince William has revealed that King Charles III “hates football”, making the remark during an appearance on NFL star Travis Kelce’s podcast released on Friday.

Speaking on the podcast hosted by Kelce and his brother Jason, the Prince of Wales said his father was not responsible for his interest in football, stating: “Absolutely not. My father hates football.”

The conversation took place just hours before Kelce’s wedding celebrations with pop star Taylor Swift, and largely centred on the 2026 FIFA World Cup rather than the high-profile ceremony.

William, who supports Premier League club Aston Villa, also said he would travel to the World Cup final in the United States if England reaches the decisive match.

England have progressed to the Round of 16 after a late double from captain Harry Kane secured victory over DR Congo, setting up a clash with Mexico.

When asked whether he expected England’s progress, William admitted there were doubts earlier in the tournament, but expressed hope of attending the final if England qualify.

The interview also coincided with US Independence Day celebrations marking 250 years of independence from Britain.
