The Federal Government has declared that the Ijora-Marine Bridge in Lagos State will be temporarily closed for 21 days starting from Sunday, May 18, for urgent repairs.

Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, revealed in a statement that the full closure would begin at 7:00 a.m. on May 18.

During this period, parts of the bridge will be entirely closed, while other sections will face partial closures.

The repairs, which include lifting the bridge deck to replace worn-out bearings and carrying out other vital maintenance work, are aimed at enhancing the safety and comfort of both motorists and pedestrians.

Kesha acknowledged the inconvenience this might cause but stressed that the repairs are crucial to ensure the long-term safety of the bridge.

“We understand the inconvenience this may cause, but these repairs are necessary to maintain the bridge’s condition and guarantee the safety of all road users,” she said.

To minimise disruption, he said carefully planned traffic diversions will be in place, with traffic officials stationed to guide motorists and maintain a smooth flow of traffic.

Kesha also urged residents, commuters, and business owners in the vicinity to plan their movements accordingly and cooperate during the closure.

“Safety signs and traffic management tools will be put in place to minimise disruptions. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate the patience of the public,” she added. (NAN)
