It was a night of celebration, honour, and recognition at the 2024 Eko Heritage Awards, held on Sunday, July 14, at the prestigious Lagos Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island.

The event brought together notable personalities across various industries, with gospel musician and bassist Oluwatobi Oyero standing out as one of the night’s biggest winners.

Oyero was awarded Bass Player of the Year, a testament to his rising influence and consistent contributions to gospel music in Nigeria and beyond. Known for his soulful and expressive bass playing, he has made a name for himself through impactful recordings and powerful live performances.

His work on songs like “Gbani Gbani” by Tomisin Ade-Kolawole, “Victory Praise” by Adedoyin Oseni, and “Praise Medley” by Praise Ishola has received widespread recognition. Beyond studio recordings, Oyero has graced the stage with some of Nigeria’s top gospel acts including Big Bolaji, Tim Godfrey, Moses Bliss, Tosin Bee, IBK, and others. He has also performed at major gospel events both in Nigeria and the United Kingdom, solidifying his place as one of the most sought-after bassists in the genre.

Speaking after receiving his award, Oyero expressed gratitude to God, his mentors, and every artist and platform that has believed in his talent. “This award is not just about me,” he said, “it’s a recognition of every musician behind the scenes whose work helps shape the sound of gospel music.”

Other notable winners at the event include actress Iyabo Ojo, who was honoured with the Eko Leadership Award for her outstanding contributions to youth empowerment and advocacy, and comedian and activist Mr Macaroni, who received recognition for his influence in entertainment and civic engagement.

The Eko Heritage Awards, an initiative dedicated to celebrating excellence in Lagos and beyond, continues to spotlight individuals making significant impact in their fields while promoting culture, leadership, and innovation.

As Oluwatobi Oyero continues to break new ground in gospel music, his recognition at the Eko Heritage Awards serves as both a milestone and motivation for greater exploits ahead.
