Former Arsenal and Ghanaian international footballer, Thomas Partey, has been formally charged with multiple counts of rape and sexual assault by the Metropolitan Police, following a detailed investigation launched in 2022.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) authorised the charges after detectives submitted a comprehensive file of evidence. Partey, 32, who resides in Hertfordshire, is now facing a total of six charges relating to three different women.

According to the Metropolitan Police, the charges are as follows: Two counts of rape involving one woman, three counts of rape involving a second woman and one count of sexual assault involving a third woman.

The alleged offences are said to have taken place between 2021 and 2022.

The investigation began in February 2022, when police received the first report of rape. Since then, detectives have conducted an extensive inquiry, which has now led to the formal charges.

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, who is overseeing the investigation, stated: “Our priority remains providing support to the women who have come forward.

“We would ask anyone who has been impacted by this case, or anyone who has information, to speak with our team. The public can reach investigators directly via [email protected].”

Partey is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 5 August.

Authorities have urged the media, publishers, and social media users to exercise caution in reporting this case.

The Attorney General’s Office has reminded the public and press of their legal obligations under common law and the Contempt of Court Act 1981, which restrict reporting that could prejudice ongoing legal proceedings.
