“Anointing doesn’t win elections,” Israel DMW reacts to Ighodalo’s defeat

Popular logistics manager and aide to Davido, Israel DMW, has broken his silence following the Supreme Court’s dismissal of the petition filed by PDP governorship candidate Asue Ighodalo.

Ighodalo had approached the apex court to challenge the declaration of Monday Okpebholo as the duly elected Governor of Edo State in the September 2023 governorship election.

However, in a ruling delivered today, July 10, 2025, the Supreme Court deemed the petition “without merit” and upheld Okpebholo’s victory.

Reacting to the judgment, Israel DMW, who had openly supported Ighodalo during the campaign season, took to his Instagram page to express his disappointment. In a cryptic post, he wrote, “Anointing doesn’t win elections in Nigeria.”

The remark has sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some netizens interpreting it as a swipe at the influence of political endorsements, while others see it as a blunt reflection on Nigeria’s political reality.

Israel DMW had previously declared his strong support for Ighodalo, describing him as his “preferred candidate” during the 2024 campaign season.
