Nigerian singer and politician, Bankole Wellington, popularly known as Banky W, has penned an emotional tribute to media personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, praising his rise from obscurity to continental stardom.
In an Instagram post, Banky W reflected on Ebuka’s journey, describing him not as a product of fame or fortune, but of resilience and strong consistency.
He reminded fans that Ebuka didn’t win the Big Brother Nigeria (BBNaija) reality show, in fact, he came eighth, but has become one of the most recognizable and respected media figures in Africa.
“When you think of Ebuka, don’t just think fashion, fame, or fortune. Think resilience,” Banky W wrote. “He didn’t win the show, but he won in life.”
He revealed Ebuka’s humble beginnings, from his days as a contestant on the first season of BBNaija to hosting talk shows like Rubbing Minds, writing for newspapers, earning a master’s degree, and consistently showing up even when the rewards were uncertain.
Banky W used a biblical metaphor, likening Ebuka’s journey to the miracle of turning water into wine.
He stressed that behind every breakthrough moment lies years of preparation, patience, and tireless effort , “filling the jars,” as he put it.
“Success takes grace and grind. The grace is from God. The grind is from you,” he wrote, urging others to reflect on their own efforts and journeys.
The tribute also acknowledged actress Osas Ighodaro and media personality Farooq, celebrating their shared growth and success.
In 2023, Ebuka opened up about his struggles after leaving BBNaija, revealing he once battled joblessness and depression despite investing in a law degree in the UK.
Today, he stands tall as the face of the BBNaija franchise and an icon in the African media space.
