U.S. Attorney David Metcalf for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania added, “Woodfield didn’t just view images; he sought out sex with a child, causing unthinkable harm. This sentence stops a predator and delivers justice for his victim.”

A Pennsylvania man, George Travis Woodfield, 41, of Macungie, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison and lifetime supervised release for heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of a child and accessing child pornography.

Woodfield was also ordered to pay $12,000 in restitution to his victim.

Court filings reveal that in November 2018, Woodfield drove an 11-year-old child across state lines to New York City, intending to sexually abuse them during an overnight trip.

After a day of sightseeing, he assaulted the child in a hotel room. Additionally, from September 2015 to July 2024, Woodfield accessed numerous images of prepubescent children being sexually abused, fueling a cycle of exploitation.

“Child sexual abuse is a depraved criminal act that harms the most innocent among us,” declared Acting Assistant Attorney General Matthew R. Galeotti of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division.

“This defendant’s actions, abusing a child and exploiting others through child sexual abuse material, demand swift justice.”

U.S. Attorney David Metcalf for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania added, “Woodfield didn’t just view images; he sought out sex with a child, causing unthinkable harm. This sentence stops a predator and delivers justice for his victim.”

The FBI’s Philadelphia Allentown Resident Agency, with support from FBI Richmond and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), led the investigation.

“There’s no greater priority than safeguarding our children,” said Assistant Director Jose A. Perez of the FBI’s Criminal Investigative Division. “This sentence reflects our relentless pursuit of predators who rob children of their innocence.”

Special Agent in Charge Wayne A. Jacobs of the FBI Philadelphia Field Office emphasized, “This case sends a clear message: those who prey on the vulnerable will face justice. Our team’s dedication ensures these heinous crimes are met with accountability.”

Prosecuted by CEOS Trial Attorney Jessica L. Urban, CEOS Senior Trial Attorney Jennifer Toritto Leonardo, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Rebecca J. Kulik, the case falls under Project Safe Childhood, a Justice Department initiative launched in 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
