A founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Professor Jerry Gana, says Peter Obi can only win northern votes in the 2027 presidential election if he contests on the platform of the party.

Jerry Gana said this  while speaking on Arise TV’s Prime Time, on Wednesday.  Gana expressed his confidence in Obi’s appeal in the North.

He said, “I’m a researcher, and I research opinions. In the northern states, Peter Obi under the PDP will defeat any candidate because our people are very fair-minded.”

The PDP chieftain also highlighted the party’s grassroots origins and its crucial role in restoring democratic governance in Nigeria. He reminisced about the party’s early days, saying, “We were formed in 1998, and then moving to the elections in 1999, we were in every polling unit because we are the ones who really won the first election.” Gana emphasized the party’s achievements, noting that it won the presidency, Senate, and House of Representatives in 1999.

Regarding recent internal conflicts within the PDP, Gana downplayed their significance, attributing them to a few elites in Abuja. He stated, “When this recent problem happened, it was really among a few elites here in Abuja. It didn’t even go beyond.”

Gana also touched on the issue of zoning within the party, hinting that the North would have a turn in leadership come 2031. He added, “Our people are very fair, and we are building a nation.”
