Former Governor of Oyo State, Senator Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has been nominated as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland by the Olubadan-in-Council.
The nomination took place during a council meeting held at the Oke-Aremo palace. The motion to nominate Ladoja was moved by the Balogun of Ibadan, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, and seconded by the Osi Olubadan, Oba Eddy Oyewole.
According to Oba Ajibola, all members of the Olubadan-in-Council have endorsed the nomination. The council is now set to forward Ladoja’s name to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, for formal approval and the scheduling of the coronation ceremony.
This development comes following the conclusion of the traditional 21-day mourning period for the late Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who passed away on July 7, 2025. Olakulehin reigned for one year after succeeding Oba Dr. Mohood Lekan Balogun, the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland.
Ladoja’s expected coronation will mark a significant chapter in the traditional leadership of Ibadan, one of the most prominent Yoruba cities in Nigeria.
