Why Kim Kardashian traveled to Mexico for controversial stem cell treatment
US reality TV star Kim Kardashian has revealed why she travelled to Mexico for a medical procedure not currently offered in the United States.
The 44-year-old SKIMS founder said she underwent a Muse stem cell treatment to tackle chronic back pain, posting images from inside the operating room on Instagram.
In the photos, Kim, dressed in black pyjamas and dark goggles, posed with her doctor, Dr. Adeel Khan, as blood was seen on her back during the procedure. Her sister, Khloé Kardashian, was also present.
Kardashian explained she first visited Dr. Khan two years ago after tearing her shoulder while lifting weights. She claimed the stem cell therapy instantly restored her movement and ended her pain.
“Encouraged by that success, I returned to address back pain I’ve suffered for years. The results were immediate again the unbearable pain is gone,” she wrote.
Stem cell treatments are not banned in the US, but most remain experimental and unapproved for general use. Muse stem cell therapy is not yet available there, forcing the star to seek treatment abroad.
While promoting the Mexican clinic, Kardashian warned followers to research thoroughly and consult doctors before trying similar procedures.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to heal and I hope science continues to evolve so more people can benefit,” she added.
