Four members of Benue House of Assembly have been suspended for six months over alleged attempt to impeach the Speaker. Aondona Dajoh.

The suspended legislators are the lawmaker representing Makurdi North, Alfred Berger; Kian state constituency , Terna Shimawua; Cyril Ekong of Obi state constituency and and James Umoru, representing Apa state constituency.

The suspended lawmakers had allegedly conspired according to impeach the Speaker, Aondona Dajoh, on Thursday night.

The suspension of the lawmakers followed a motion of urgent importance moved by the Majority Leader, Saater Tiseer at the plenary on Friday.

Tiseer moved for the suspension of the four lawmakers for attempting to unsettle the state assembly with what he described as a needless crisis.

Consequently, the Speaker directed the Sergeant at Arms to lead the suspended lawmakers out of the chambers.

The Speaker also appointed Audu Elias as the new spokesperson of the House, following as Berger, who had held the position was among the suspended lawmakers.

Benue House of Assembly has been at loggerheads with the governor, Hycinth Alia since its inauguration.

However, it is not certain if the suspension of the four lawmakers has anything to do with power tussle between the Assembly and Alia.
