NPFL: Newly promoted Kun Khalifat risk withdrawal from current season, reasons stated

Quick Read

Kun Khalifat FC, popularly known as The Pride of Imo State, expressed hope that with collective efforts, the team will not only survive but also thrive in the NPFL, continuing to make Imolites proud

Kun Khalifat FC of Owerri, Imo State, has issued an urgent appeal for financial support to enable the club to participate fully in the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.

The club’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Michael Chukwudi Amaefule, in a statement on behalf of the management, staff, and players, said the team is committed to honouring its league fixtures but faces challenges beyond its control.

Amaefule explained that while Kun Khalifat FC has achieved remarkable progress in recent years, rising from the Nationwide League One (NLO) to the Nigeria National League (NNL) through sheer determination, competing in the NPFL presents a far greater financial burden.

“The cost of participating in the premier league for a season is close to one billion naira. This is a burden that is proving too great for us to bear alone,” the CEO said.

He stressed that the appeal is not a sign of weakness or lack of commitment but a call for collective responsibility to ensure Imo State continues to enjoy representation at the highest level of Nigerian football.

Amaefule called on fans, supporters, well-wishers, corporate bodies, good-spirited individuals, and especially the Imo State Government to support the club through sponsorship and financial assistance.

“With support, we can overcome these financial hurdles, sustain our NPFL status, and achieve greater heights,” he said.
