The Ogun State Government has appointed 1,200 political assistants as part of a major drive to strengthen democratic participation and ensure wider access to governance at the grassroots level.

In a statement, the Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to Governor Dapo Abiodun, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, described the initiative as a deliberate strategy to entrench inclusive governance across the state.

According to him, the appointees, drawn five each from the 236 wards in Ogun State, will act as a direct link between the government and the people, fostering stronger engagement and ensuring that community needs are effectively articulated to the state government.

“The political assistants are expected to support the delivery of democratic dividends, represent the aspirations of their wards, and communicate government policies back to the people. They will serve as a two-way channel, ensuring accurate feedback between the grassroots and the administration,” Akinmade explained.

He noted that the development reflects Governor Abiodun’s commitment to his campaign pledge of running an all-inclusive government that recognises the voice of every ward in the state’s decision-making and development processes.

The state government also urged the new appointees to be proactive in driving growth and development within their wards, local governments, and the state as a whole.
