Akon’s wife ends marriage after 29 years

Tomeka Thiam, wife of renowned Senegalese-American singer Akon, has filed for divorce just days before what would have been their 29th wedding anniversary.

According to court documents filed on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at the Fulton County Superior Court in Georgia, Tomeka is seeking the dissolution of their marriage on the grounds of irreconcilable differences.

She has also requested joint legal custody of their 17-year-old daughter, with visitation rights granted to Akon. In addition, Tomeka is seeking spousal support from the music star while urging the court to deny any such request from him.

The couple, who tied the knot in September 1996, have faced long-standing speculation about the state of their marriage.
