Juventus staged a dramatic comeback to beat Inter Milan 4-3 in a pulsating Derby d’Italia on Sunday, with Vasilije Adzic’s late thunderbolt sealing a remarkable victory.

The clash at the Allianz Stadium was a high-octane contest, highlighted by the emotional subplot of brothers Khephren and Marcus Thuram both finding the net as their father, Lilian Thuram, watched on.

Inter, still reeling from a shock home defeat to Udinese, handed a debut to Manuel Akanji after his move from Manchester City. Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Carlos Augusto started, while Federico Dimarco and Petar Sucic began on the bench.

Juventus, who had not conceded a goal before this game, missed Andrea Cambiaso through suspension, while injuries sidelined Francisco Conceicao, Fabio Miretti, Juan Cabal, Arek Milik and new signing Edon Zhegrova.

The match kicked off at a blistering pace. Nicolò Barella went close for Inter with an early volley, while Juventus’ Kenan Yildiz twice threatened but was denied by last-ditch defending. Juventus broke the deadlock when Gleison Bremer’s knockdown from a Locatelli corner was expertly volleyed home by Lloyd Kelly.

Inter hit back quickly through Hakan Calhanoglu, who rifled in from the edge of the box. Juventus regained the lead as Yildiz struck from distance with a swerving finish.

The second half belonged to Inter in terms of possession, and they eventually drew level again. Calhanoglu scored a stunning chest-controlled volley, before Marcus Thuram’s header from Dimarco’s corner put the visitors ahead.

But Juventus responded immediately. Khephren Thuram rose highest to nod in from Yildiz’s free-kick, restoring parity.

The decisive moment came late when substitute Vasilije Adzic unleashed a 30-yard rocket that curled into the top corner past Yann Sommer. Despite protests from Inter over a possible foul in the build-up, VAR allowed the goal to stand.

Inter pressed hard until the final whistle, with Marcus Thuram missing a crucial header in stoppage time. Juventus held on to preserve their perfect start to the Serie A season, while Inter suffered back-to-back defeats.

The win underlined Juventus’ resilience and added another thrilling chapter to Italy’s most storied rivalry.
