Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
His Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, announced the decision in a Facebook post on Wednesday.
According to Alabrah, Diri resigned alongside the Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Abraham Ingobere, and all PDP members in the state legislature.
The move ends weeks of speculation about the governor’s possible defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), although Alabrah did not confirm which party Diri plans to join.
According to The Punch, the announcement was made during the State Executive Council meeting held inside Government House, Yenagoa. It is also believed that all members of the State Executive Council resigned with him.
When contacted, Alabrah declined to comment further, saying, “I cannot talk now.”
