Mavin Records boss, Don Jazzy, has opened up about what truly inspires his choice of artists to sign under his record label, stressing that personality, hunger, and vision matter more than just musical talent.
In a candid interview with RollingStone Africa, the award-winning producer and music executive said that when scouting new talents, he looks beyond hit songs or social media buzz, choosing instead to invest in what he calls “the vessel behind the music.”
According to Don Jazzy, while it’s impossible to predict which artist will eventually become a global superstar, instincts often reveal those who have genuine drive and commitment.
“Beyond the music, I focus on the vessel, the person. I look at their personality, their hunger, their vision. At Mavin, we also pay attention to how well they’ll fit into our culture,” he said.
He added that many artists often don’t realize how far their dreams can go until time and experience reveal their potential.
“You can’t always predict who will blow up, but sometimes you can feel when someone truly wants it. Many don’t realize how big their dreams can get until time unfolds,” he added.
Don Jazzy also emphasized that alignment with Mavin’s collaborative culture is key, noting that every artist signed to the label must blend with its creative community.
