Nigeria has been ranked as the third-largest receiver of United States foreign aid in Sub-Saharan Africa, according to a new report by Cable Index.
The report reviewed U.S. financial assistance to 20 African countries as of September 2025. It showed that Nigeria received about $516.69 million in aid during the period. Ethiopia topped the list with $617.35 million, followed by the Democratic Republic of Congo with $571.35 million.
According to the report, most of the U.S. support focused on humanitarian aid, healthcare, education, and governance programs aimed at promoting peace and development across Africa.
Other major beneficiaries included Sudan ($514.55 million), Kenya ($402.84 million), and Somalia ($402.57 million).
At the bottom of the list, Ghana received $114.56 million, ranking 20th among Sub-Saharan countries.
