Bayelsa Police orders mental evaluation for Inspector who brutally assaulted wife, children

The Bayelsa State Police Command has ordered a mental health evaluation for Inspector Sunday Ideh, who was arrested for brutally assaulting his three children after accusing them of being witches.

The command said the evaluation would help determine his psychological state before he faces criminal charges.

Inspector Ideh was arrested over the weekend after a viral video showed him subjecting his children to severe physical abuse.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Sanusi Mohammed, confirmed the arrest when members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) visited the police headquarters in Yenagoa.

Mohammed described Ideh as a once responsible officer but stressed that the matter would be handled thoroughly and not covered up.

He assured that the officer would be prosecuted in line with the law once investigations and mental assessments are completed.
