Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has unveiled Nigeria’s first dedicated logistics park, built by TY Logistics, describing it as a pivotal step toward modernising freight movement, improving food distribution, and easing congestion across the state.

The facility, located on a 220-hectare site, forms a central component of the Lagos State 5-Year Agricultural and Food Systems Roadmap (2021–2025).

It is designed to overhaul Nigeria’s food logistics architecture through a centralised, technology-driven system for storage, processing and distribution.

Speaking at the commissioning at Alaro City, along the Lekki Expressway’s North West Quadrant within the Lekki Free Zone on Monday, Sanwo-Olu said the project demonstrates how effective public policy can align seamlessly with private-sector investment.

He noted that when sound government policy, investor confidence and an enabling environment align, “they create a dynamic ecosystem where businesses can thrive, investments can grow, and citizens can believe in the leadership steering the state’s future.”

Acknowledging the rapid transformation occurring across the corridor, the Governor said the zone has attracted several first-class companies in recent years, a development he described as the product of deliberate, long-term choices.

According to him, “It has passed several first-class companies all around here. One person that we also need to thank, very distinctly, is Mr. President, who, when you were governor, also thought about the Free Zone almost 20 years ago. And all of us have been able to see the benefit of that story.”

He said the vision conceived two decades ago had now matured into a thriving economic zone, reinforcing the value of continuity in governance.

Reiterating plans to strengthen infrastructure around the Lekki corridor, the Governor disclosed that Lagos had secured additional Federal Government approval to advance the Lekki–Epe road upgrade. This includes the construction of a new seven-axle road that will run directly from the Lekki Port through the refinery and Lekki Water axis.

“And just on your right-hand side there, I’m sure you know where the alignment is. This road will also connect logistics traffic towards the Sagamu–Benin–Ore Expressway, reducing the pressure on the Lekki–Epe Expressway that we have right here,” he said.

Sanwo-Olu expressed appreciation to the Federal Government and its relevant agencies for their collaboration, noting that such partnerships are critical to attracting foreign direct investment and ensuring the smooth movement of goods.

He added that synergy between state and federal infrastructure efforts would significantly enhance the commercial value of the new logistics hub, ensuring its operations make “complete business sense” for investors and operators.

At the unveiling, Chairman of TY Logistics, Theo Danjuma, said the company made a bold and forward-looking decision to acquire land in the corridor, driven by a vision to create a purpose-built logistics platform capable of transforming goods movement across Nigeria and West Africa.

He explained that what began as a “rainy day” response to longstanding logistical constraints had now materialised into two world-class facilities offering 29,000 square metres of premium, pre-zoned space designed to power modern trade and supply-chain operations.

“Under the leadership of our CEO of TY Logistics Park Arno van der Merwe now delivers full contract logistics solutions to medium and large businesses across the fast-moving consumer goods sector electronics, automotive parts, fashion, pharmaceuticals and many other industries,” he said.

Danjuma added that the company’s wider capabilities enable the delivery of a fully integrated, end-to-end supply chain solution, covering clearing and forwarding, compliance management, import and export processing, complex inventory handling, value-added services, and last-mile distribution.

He said the group’s digital ecosystem, built on global-standard systems and fully digitised workflows, ensures faster operations, greater accuracy and full supply-chain visibility.

“Our advanced warehouse management system also ensures full inventory transparency, real-time stock control and error-free order processing which are all critical for high-velocity sectors and essential for products with shelf-life sensitivities.

“This technology allows goods to move faster, with greater accuracy and significantly reduces operational friction. Our strategic location in the Alaro Free Zone, 20 minutes from the Lekki Deep Water Port positions us to offer unmatched import and export efficiencies.

“This includes import of record solutions, duty deferment, tax optimisation and enhanced regional distribution into West African markets. Beyond all that, the infrastructure and systems, our true focus is partnership. We see ourselves not just as a logistics provider, but as an extension of our clients’ business taking on the logistical complexities so they can focus on what truly matters growing their footprint, strengthening their brand and increasing their market share,” he said.
