Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has officially been cleared by the Accord Party to contest in its governorship primary happening today.

Delegates of the party are meeting at Oasis Event Hall in Osogbo for the primary, where Adeleke is the only aspirant.

Adeleke joined the Accord Party late on Tuesday after resigning from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). According to the statement from Ibe Thankgod, who heads the screening committee, the governor met all requirements and has now been confirmed as the party’s candidate for the primary.

Thankgod said all necessary documents have been completed, and Adeleke was given a certificate confirming his clearance. He praised Adeleke as a credible candidate.

In response, Governor Adeleke thanked the party leadership and said he is ready for both the primary and the main governorship election in 2026. He stated, “We are winning by God’s grace.”

Members of the screening committee include Abdurahaman Muhammed, Abdulahi Sani Muhammed, and Mrs. Rachael Awogbade.

Meanwhile, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has also left the PDP and joined the APC. He announced this during a meeting at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

Seventeen members of the Rivers House of Assembly, linked to former Governor Nyesom Wike, earlier defected to the APC. This shift has changed the political balance in the state.

The PDP has reacted to Fubara’s defection, saying it is a decision he willingly made and must live with. The party described it as “self-inflicted” and a result of his own choices.
