The Governing Council, Federal University Dutse (FUD), has approved the appointment of Prof. Muhammad Gumel as the 4th substantive Vice-Chancellor.

The Governing Council, Federal University Dutse (FUD), has approved the appointment of Prof. Muhammad Gumel as the 4th substantive Vice-Chancellor.
The Chairman of the council, Prof. Shu’aibu Abdulrahim, said this on Saturday in Dutse.
He said the council approved the appointment during its extraordinary meeting held on Saturday at the Dutse campus of the university.
Abdulrahim said the appointment would take effect from Feb. 10, 2026.
“The selection followed a rigorous and meticulous process in which 21 applicants were shortlisted and interviewed, yet Gumel emerged,” he said.
He congratulated the new VC and tasked him to discharge his duties diligently.
Also, Gumel pledged to build on the achievements of the outgoing VC.
Gumel is an Alumnus of University of Malaya in Malaysia, where he obtained a Master of Biotechnology and Ph.D in Industrial Biotechnology, specialising in Biocatalysis and Bioprocess Technology in 2009 and 2013, respectively.
He was also a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of Malaya, Malaysia in 2014.
