Nigerian entertainer and content creator Carter Efe has been temporarily suspended from Twitch, just days after setting a record as Africa’s most-followed streamer.

The suspension comes as a shock to fans and industry watchers who celebrated the comedian’s rapid rise on the global livestreaming platform. Earlier this week, a livestream featuring Afrobeats superstar Davido drew a peak of more than 83,000 concurrent viewers, propelling Carter Efe’s channel past 405,000 followers, a milestone that placed him ahead of all other African creators on Twitch.

Davido’s appearance, combined with Carter Efe’s comedic and musical content, helped the stream achieve viral status, attracting both music lovers and gaming audiences.

Fellow Nigerian content creator Sydney Talker publicly commended Carter Efe’s achievement, describing it as a historic moment for Nigerian digital creators.

Visitors to Carter Efe’s Twitch page now encounter a notice stating:

“This channel is temporarily unavailable due to a violation of Twitch’s Community Guidelines or Terms of Service.”

Twitch has not specified the nature of the violation, leaving followers and industry observers questioning what led to the sudden suspension. The platform is known to enforce temporary bans for issues ranging from copyright breaches to violations of community rules.
