President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended heartfelt condolences to heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua following the tragic road accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway that claimed two lives and left the boxer injured.

In a personal message shared on his official X handle on Monday, Tinubu described the incident as an immense tragedy that has cast a deep shadow over the season, mourning the loss of what he called “two precious lives.”

The President expressed solidarity with Joshua and his family as they grapple with the emotional weight of the fatal crash, noting that moments of national grief demand unity, compassion and shared strength among Nigerians.

“As a sportsman, you have always shown courage, discipline, and unwavering love for our country,” Tinubu said, praising Joshua’s character and achievements which, he noted, have made the boxer a symbol of national pride both at home and on the global stage.

Tinubu urged Nigerians to draw closer in solidarity, describing the incident as a reminder of shared humanity and collective destiny, even in times of sorrow.

He further offered prayers for Joshua’s recovery and for divine comfort for the families of the deceased, asking God to grant repose to the souls of those who lost their lives in the crash.

The President’s message comes amid widespread public concern and an outpouring of goodwill for Joshua, who is currently receiving medical care following the accident.

Authorities in Ogun and Lagos states have since commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash, while assuring the public that all necessary medical and safety measures are being taken.

The incident has continued to draw national attention, with political leaders, sports figures and fans expressing grief over the fatalities and relief over Joshua’s survival.
