The Federal Ministry of Education has announced plans to introduce a unique Examination Learners’ Identity Number for candidates of the Senior School Certificate Examinations (SSCE) from 2026.

The Federal Ministry of Education has announced plans to introduce a unique Examination Learners’ Identity Number for candidates of the Senior School Certificate Examinations (SSCE) from 2026.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Folasade Boriowo, the initiative is aimed at strengthening monitoring, accountability, and tackling examination malpractice.

The ministry said the identifier will enable effective tracking of candidates throughout the examination process and support long-term reforms in assessment, certification, and data management.

The statement added that examination administration will be conducted under closer supervision and in collaboration with examination bodies, including WAEC, NECO, and NBAIS, to ensure compliance with ethical and global standards.

It also confirmed that enhanced question randomisation and serialisation will be implemented, meaning each candidate will receive a uniquely arranged set of questions, though content will remain the same.

The ministry warned that schools and students found violating examination regulations may face sanctions, including disqualification from examinations, cancellation of results, and loss of examination centre status. It also reaffirmed the ban on transfers for SS3 students.

New national guidelines for Continuous Assessment (CA) have been approved, requiring all schools and examination bodies to submit CA records within fixed timelines: First Term in January, Second Term in April, and Third Term in August.

Applications and related examination processes will be closely monitored to ensure transparency, consistency, and integrity across all stages of national examinations.
