Medical doctor in trouble as police slam 6-count charge against blogger Adetoun

A medical doctor has landed in trouble for allegedly helping social media influencer and blogger, Just Adetoun (Adetoun Onajobi) to craft a medical report indicating that she was not well enough to honour the invitation of Ogun State Police Command.

The Command had invited Adetoun over six- count criminal charges bordering on publication of publish false accusations against the Ogun Government and cyberbullying of the state governor, Dapo Abiodun at the Federal High Court, Abeokuta, Ogun State

But the Command in a statement by its spokesperson Oluseyi Babaseyi said instead of honoring the police invitation, Adetoun through her lawyer wrote to the police indicating that she was medically indisposed and unable to attend the meeting.

Babaseyi said the letter was attached with a medical report allegedly issued by a medical doctor, detailing several medical challenges purportedly suffered by Adetoun and the efforts being made to treat and stabilise her.

However, the Command said its investigation revealed that the claims contained in the medical report were false and this led to the arrest of the doctor.

The doctor, according to the police, confessed that the entire “medical report was a ruse, crafted at the direction of the suspect, Adetoun Onajobi, during a phone conversation between them, facilitated by her lawyer.”

Police added that following the revelation, the doctor was arraigned before an Ogun State Magistrates’ Court for conspiracy, uttering a false document, and obstructing the course of justice.

The Police also said the six-count charge against @justadetoun are now pending before the Abeokuta Division of the Federal High Court

In the charges, the police accused the blogger of using social media and other internet-enabled computer platforms to publish false accusations against the Ogun State Government and to bully Governor Dapo Abiodun in breach of the Cybercrimes Act.

The Command said the blogger has remained evasive and has rebuffed every invitation extended to her by the Police to answer the charges and her current whereabouts are unknown.

However, the Command said it will continue to trial other suspects connected to the false information allegedly deployed by Adetoun Onajobi in an attempt to obstruct police investigations.

The Command vowed that it will deploy all the lawful means available to it to apprehend and produce Just Adetoun in court to answer the charges filed against her.

“Furthermore, having reneged on her prior undertaking to honour police invitations, the Command will exhaust all lawful means to apprehend and produce her before the Court to answer the charges already filed against her.

“The Ogun State Police Command remains resolute in its duty to tackle all forms of crime brought to its attention, whether violent, white-collar, or digital, while ensuring full respect for the constitutional rights of all persons. However, constitutionally protected activities such as free speech have lawful limits and do not grant immunity from criminal conduct,” Babaseyi said.
