U-turn: Kun Khalifat return to NPFL

Quick Read

The club will now continue its NPFL campaign and will play Shooting Stars of Ibadan in their next match. The game is scheduled for Sunday, February 8, 2026, at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri

Kun Khalifat FC have returned to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) just one day after withdrawing from the competition over what they called unfair sanctions.

The Owerri-based club confirmed their return on Thursday after holding discussions with the League Management Board. According to the club, the talks were positive and all issues were resolved.

Kun Khalifat had earlier pulled out of the league after being punished for failing to play a match against El-Kanemi Warriors. The decision caused debate among football fans and officials.

In a statement signed by the club’s Chief Executive Officer, Michael Amaefula, the club said it was happy with the outcome of the meeting and had been reinstated with immediate effect.

Amaefula said both the club and the NPFL agreed to move forward in the interest of Nigerian football. He thanked the league officials for listening to the club’s concerns and promised better cooperation in the future.

The club will now continue its NPFL campaign and will play Shooting Stars of Ibadan in their next match. The game is scheduled for Sunday, February 8, 2026, at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri.

Kun Khalifat also called on their fans to come out in large numbers to support the team, describing the match as very important to their season.

The club thanked supporters for their patience during the period of uncertainty and promised exciting football as the league campaign resumes.
