The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has attributed the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) loss in Gwagwalada Local Government Area to issues with the party’s choice of candidate.
Speaking this morning during a media chat with journalists, Wike, who served as a former governor of Rivers State, said he had privileged information by virtue of his position as FCT Minister that pointed to internal problems within the APC.
“There are things I don’t want to say here, but I know there was a problem with the APC candidate who was selected to run the election,” Wike said.
The FCT minister stressed that the ruling party’s defeat in Gwagwalada, where the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) emerged victorious, reflected the consequences of poor candidate selection rather than any interference with the electoral process.
He added that as a senior official in the territory, he had access to information on electoral dynamics but clarified that his movements during the polls did not influence the outcome.
The comments come amid continued debate over the February 21 area council elections, which saw the APC retain most councils in the FCT but lose in critical areas, including Gwagwalada.
