Bamidele said the governor had demonstrated strong leadership and commitment to improving the welfare of the state’s estimated 3.8 million residents, noting that his administration had continued to pursue development initiatives with vision and determination.

Leader of the Senate, Opeyemi Bamidele, on Monday revealed that the Southwest chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has set an ambitious target of mobilising 10 million votes for the re-election of Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

Bamidele disclosed the plan during the inauguration of the 57-member Ekiti State Governorship Election Campaign Council in Ado Ekiti.

The Senate Leader, who also serves as chairman of the APC campaign council for the 2026 Ekiti governorship poll, expressed confidence that the party would secure a decisive victory in the June 20 governorship election, predicting it would be a “walkover” for the APC.

According to him, the election will serve as a referendum on the administration of Biodun Oyebanji, whose development programmes and governance style he described as unprecedented in the history of the state.

Bamidele said the governor had demonstrated strong leadership and commitment to improving the welfare of the state’s estimated 3.8 million residents, noting that his administration had continued to pursue development initiatives with vision and determination.

While urging party members to work tirelessly toward Oyebanji’s re-election, Bamidele stressed that the APC’s broader objective goes beyond Ekiti State.

He explained that preparations were already underway for the 2027 general elections, where the party intends to consolidate support for President Tinubu across the South-west.

Bamidele therefore called on APC leaders and members to intensify mobilisation efforts, particularly by encouraging citizens to participate in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

With 987,647 registered voters recorded in Ekiti as of 2023, he said the party aims to increase voter enrolment by at least 50 per cent before August 2026, when the current registration exercise is expected to close.

He urged party faithful to adopt grassroots mobilisation strategies by engaging communities, neighbours and colleagues to register and collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

“If we are committed to this task, we can significantly expand our voter base ahead of the elections,” he said, stressing that door-to-door mobilisation across communities would be crucial to achieving the party’s targets.

Bamidele also pledged to lead the Ekiti campaign with dedication, expressing confidence that the APC would deliver a 90 per cent landslide victory in the June 20 governorship poll.

Responding, Governor Oyebanji thanked the Senate Leader for his support and assured party leaders that his re-election campaign would remain issue-based and development-focused.

He emphasised that his campaign would concentrate on policies, programmes and future development plans rather than personal attacks on political opponents.

Oyebanji also urged all candidates and political parties participating in the election to strictly comply with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022 and other constitutional guidelines to ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process.
