Iran lists conditions for peace as tensions continue

The Iranian leader also insisted that compensation for the damage caused by the conflict must be addressed and that Iran’s “legitimate rights” should receive global acknowledgement.
Iran’s President, Masoud Pezeshkian, has outlined conditions he says must be met before the ongoing conflict involving the country can come to an end.
In a message posted on the social media platform X on Wednesday, Pezeshkian stated that hostilities could only cease if binding international assurances were put in place to prevent further attacks on Iran.
The Iranian leader also insisted that compensation for the damage caused by the conflict must be addressed and that Iran’s “legitimate rights” should receive global acknowledgement.
Although he did not elaborate on what those rights entail, analysts monitoring Iranian politics suggest the reference could relate to the recent emergence of Mojtaba Khamenei as the country’s new supreme leader and Iran’s desire for the international community to formally recognise the leadership transition.
The development follows remarks earlier this week by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, who expressed dissatisfaction with Mojtaba Khamenei’s rise to power.
Trump warned that the new Iranian leader could face serious challenges in maintaining stability.
“I don’t believe he can live in peace,” Trump said, though he offered no additional explanation.
